Rich Goeldner has provided business valuations on a full-time basis since 1992.  He has performed over 600 business appraisals and specializes in the appraisal of privately-held companies and intangible assets. Rich opened the Tampa office of FairValue Advisors in 2006. As a business valuation expert, Rich has provided business appraisal services for Fortune 500 companies, family businesses, middle-market companies, private equity firms, as well as M&A firms and the Internal Revenue Service.

He has provided business valuation services for exit planning, acquisitions & divestitures, family wealth planning, financial reporting, ESOP compliance, stockholder disputes and marital dissolution. He has appraised closely-held common and preferred stock, business assets in aggregate, intangible assets, stock options and warrants, Rule 144 restricted stock, illiquid debt instruments, general and limited partnership interests. Rich has also provided fairness and solvency opinions in connection with mergers and acquisitions, as well as asset impairment studies. 

Rich has business valuation experience in a broad range of industries, from early-stage biotechnology and software technologies to industrial manufacturing, distribution, retail and e-commerce. He has testified as an expert witness in business valuation matters involving shareholder disputes and divorce.

Before co-forming FairValue Advisors, Rich was the Managing Director of Valmark Appraisal. Previously, Rich was the Florida Director of Financial Valuation for Marshall & Stevens.  His valuation career has also included valuation management positions with BDO Seidman, Arthur Andersen, as well as regional valuation firms.

Professional Involvement

Rich has been a guest speaker regarding business valuation topics for the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Financial Planning Association of the Suncoast, the Southwest Florida Estate Planning CouncilWSBR Talk Radio, the National Center for Employee Ownership, Emory University, the SBDC at the University of North Florida, the College of Coastal Georgia, the American Society of Appraisers, the Institute of Business Appraisers, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and regional accounting firms. 

His writings on business valuation issues have been published in local business journals including the Jacksonville Business Journal and the Atlanta Small Business Monthly. Rich has been published in the Business Valuation Review and The Value Examiner and cited in business valuation textbooks and courses. Topics have included: Preparing to Sell a Business, Bridging the Gap Between Public & Private Market Multiples, Understanding the Value of Your Business, Applying a Fundamental Discount, Using the Blended Growth Rate, and Evaluating Your Business Model.

Rich has mentored CBA candidates through the IBA Mentor Program, taught business valuation courses for the ASA, and has served on both the ASA’s International Board of Examiners and the IBA’s Qualifications Review Committee.  Rich currently serves on the Editorial Board of The Value Examiner, published by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. Rich is a Tampa member of the Association for Corporate Growth.
